Figs THE SACRED FRUIT :- Health benefits, history, nutrition of fig bark, leaves, fruit and dry figs.

 Ficus Carica is a botanical name of figs.  There are more than 25 varieties of fig trees that grows from 29 feet to 100 feet with life span of more than 100 years. Iraq and Egypt are found to be the ancient cultivation of fig trees during the period of 2700 B.C. Romans were used to prioritize this fruit as a sacred fruit in their food. Fig is one of the most sacred fruit of ancient times in major parts of the World that includes Greek, Romans, Hindus, Muslims.  

Cultural beliefs:-

The Jewish King and his brother got recovered from plague after eating figs as a medicine.  The book of Quran records that fig was the fruit blessed from heaven.  Buddhists consider fig tree as a sacred tree because it is one of the variety of bodhi tree.  One of the oldest Greek poet wrote that The God has hidden the spirit of the Country inside the sacred fruit called as fig.  Romans gifts their loved ones, a bunch of figs during the new year for In some of the  Hindu temples, people worship the fig tree for their health and prosperity.

Figs 50g

Milk 500 ml

Jaggery  100g

Ghee 10 tsp

Nuts  required quantity

Boil the milk and add chopped figs in it.  Stir the mixture after adding jaggery and required amount of ghee.  Stir well until the halwa becomes non sticky on the pan.  Taste the mouth watering halwa after it reaches the room temperature.

Health benefits 

The small sweet figs hides carbohydrates, iron, fiber, potassium and less fat which compels everyone to consume the figs for healthy life.

Leg and joint pain relief:-  The bark of the tree is powdered and given to the people who are suffering from joint pain to get fast relief.

The leaves of the figs were dried and powdered and used as a medicine for bile related issues.

Medicine for piles and constipation:- four to five fruits of figs are soaked in a cold water. After few hours, the soaked fruits are taken during the morning and evening to reduce piles and relives from constipation.

In olden days, Athletes energy booster was figs.  

In France, the leaves of the figs are used to make the most fragrant perfumes.
